The Drums of Monimbó

  • Ann Roy worked with Mexican journalist Cesar Arias de la Canal to translate to English his chronicle of the grassroots efforts of the Sandinista in Nicaragua. The translation was never published, but excerpts were made into a Pacifica News radio segment.

Los Tambores, available in Spanish, draws on interviews with 20 individuals in a barrio near Masaya, Nicaragua. Masaya was the base for the Nicaraguan revolution.

Article written by Robert Croomquist who took the English translation of Drums of Monimbo to publishers in the United States. Unsuccessful in getting the book representation, he engaged playwright Martin Worman, KPFA producer Louis Billottee and director Michele Linfante to create a docu-drama that aired on February 21, 1981.
